I (Tony the Balloon Guy) stopped at a single-copy newspaper box to buy a St. Petersburg Times today, and saw that the price has gone up. Again.
I bought a copy anyway, ’cause it’s a comfy, familiar paper – I’ve been reading it since the late ’70s, delivered it for a while when I was young, and had some Times-related/employed professors when I attended the University of South Florida.
(Sometimes people who admire my balloon entertainment ask, “Did you have to go to school for that?” I say, “No, I had to go to school to be a journalist – I’m a homeschooled balloon guy!” And while newspapers and magazines are firing and failing left and right, I’m one of the busiest full-time family entertainers in Florida, so I guess I made the right career choice!)
Anyhow, as I got back in the car with my copy of the Times, I noticed that the front of the green box had a sign that proclaimed that, at $.75 daily and $1.75 on Sundays, the Times is Tampa Bay’s best value.
But even if you’re just talking about Bay area newspapers, the orange box next to the green box quietly reminded everyone that the Tampa Tribune is $.50 every day, including Sunday.
I hope what’s written in the St. Pete paper is more reliable than what’s written on the box!
But I kid the Times…
On the bright side, you can subscribe to the St. Petersburg Times for next to nothing. We just can’t keep up with the clutter when we do that.
Have a fun day!
