Please allow me (Tony the Balloon Guy) to introduce my partner, Face Painter Phyllis.
I have been working professionally with Phyllis since 2004, though we have been personally together even longer! Yes, she’s a very patient person.
We started out in this celebration industry by doing pony rides at parties and events, either one or two hand-led, or a carousel of four or six.
It’s been an organic process, and though it hasn’t always been easy, especially in the beginning, it’s a great life!
Face Painter Phyllis teases me that she would not be in this business if not for me, but I have to point out that I would not be in this business if not for her. It is the combination of my entertaining silliness and her good business sense (she has previously owned a travel company and a cleaning company, and been corporate management as well), plus some skills, and genuine interest in people and what makes them happy, on both our parts, that has led to our success.
Face Painter Phyllis was born in Germany to US military parents, so I say she’s one of those foreigners come to take jobs away from American face painters and pony wranglers. She points to the US Constitution to refute this, but I dunno…
Phyllis studied psychology at the University of South Florida (USF), where I earned my mass communications (magazine journalism) degree, but it hasn’t helped her with me yet.
Phyllis loves to sail and SCUBA dive. And her real passion has always been horses, especially Arabians, which she used to race over long distances (endurance racing).
She is also very good with children, and introducing horses and children to each other, so a pony party with “Cowgirl Phyllis” is always a big hit.
If Phyllis is painting faces at a party, and the pony is there, too, our friend Amanda and one of the junior partners of our family business handle the pony walking. Amanda is also excellent with children, and calls the pony her buddy!
For pool parties, beach parties and spray park parties, where water will wash away face paint, Phyllis offers glitter tattoos.
These are brilliant, sparkly pictures of fairies, super hero symbols, spiders, ponies, pirate emblems, etc., put on hands, arms, ankles – not faces! – with stencils and a surgical-quality adhesive, so they don’t come off when the water hits!
Phyllis has painted faces for The Tampa Bay Lightning and the Tampa Yankees, as well as other “big name” clients like Bank of America, Wal-Mart, Kelloggs Cereals, RaceTrac and Target, plus hundreds of events at homes, schools, churches, company picnics, etc.
She is also the brains behind the balloon decor arm of our business, in which we make huge arches, tunnels, canopies, columns, etc., out of balloons, and also smaller pieces, like centerpieces, for weddings, showers, grand openings, and so on. This page has information and pictures about our decor work.
So now you know Face Painter Phyllis a little better. And we invite you to meet her in person at one of the three weekly appearances she performs at – TonyTheBalloonGuy.com has days and times. And, of course, feel free to book her for a party or other event, either on her own, or with balloon entertainment, a pony, a magic show, etc.
I’ll leave you with a few pictures of my true love’s work:
Have a fun day!
