Oh Great, KIDS NIGHT!!!

Friday, January 29th, 2010

A lot of times, when I have a chance between kids, I (Tony the Balloon Guy) make something and give it to a grown-up in a restaurant (usually a lady). Mostly I don’t ask first, because they’ll automatically say No Thank You, but when it’s already put together and all cute-lookin’, they are almost always happy with it.

For some reason, though, last night I did ask this one lady who was waiting alone at a table. She looked a little edgy, and I didn’t want to just hand her something. She did say No Thank You.

But when I was done for the night, and her date had arrived, I asked her one more time if she wanted a balloon. She looked at her companion and said, “Can I have one, Big Daddy?”

She ended up asking for a rose that she had seen me make for the chef to take to his girlfriend. She also told me that she had been watching all the other things I made, and listed the ones she especially liked. Then she confided, “When I first got here and saw all the kids, I thought, ‘Oh my…’”

See? That was the edginess I picked up on.

“Yeah, kid’s night is fun, but not always when you’re at a nice Italian restaurant for a quiet, romantic dinner.” I looked over at the gentlemen. “They weren’t TOO loud tonight, though, were they?”

He shrugged. “By the time I got here, most of them were gone. I was fine.”

“I was fine, too,” the lady said quickly. “I just ordered my wine right away!!!”

I also made her a bear holding a heart, for a baby shower she’s throwing on Saturday. And we all lived happily ever after.

Just Like Real People!

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Having a nice dinner at Outback in Tampa yesterday, one of the junior partners in our family buiness said, “I feel like we’re a normal family.”

“Why?” asked Face Painter Phyllis.

“Because we’re in a restaurant, and you two are not making balloons or painting anybody!”

How I Spend My Weekends

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Big party Saturday. I (Tony the Balloon Guy) did a half-hour magic show that had the kids SCREAMING and laughing (why all the screaming?), and then Face Painter Phyllis did her thing for an hour while I did balloon entertainment, and our assistant, Amanda, walked the pony. Plus, one of the junior partners in our family business helped with the pony, while the other two did temporary tattoos!

Then off to an hour and a half of balloons and faces at another party before finishing the day with balloons and faces for four hours at Denny’s.

Whew!

Rave Reviews at the Straz Center

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Face Painter Phyllis and I (Tony the Balloon Guy) did before-the-play entertainment at the David A. Straz Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa again Sunday.

Some of the moms declared of my antics, “This is better than the show!”

And one of the staff made a point of telling me, “I’ve been working here for ten years, and never seen anyone as good as you.”

Another staff member used to work at Disney World, and told Phyllis she painted as well as anyone there.

So a nice day of ego boosts for our family business!

Like Shirley Temple

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

At the Golden Corral last night, a mom asked her little girl (about five years old) to tell me (Tony the Balloon Guy) why the family was there last night.

The little girl, all curly red hair, said, “Because you and the face painter are here!”

I told her her thank you so much! And then I added, as a joke, “Make sure you tell the manager, too!”

She did. Spunky!

Mmmmmm, Pie…

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Paying for her meal at Denny’s last night, a lady told the server how much she enjoyed seeing me make balloons. The server said that SHE also still found me entertaining, and made sure that the lady had my business card, for parties and such. After the lady had left, the server came over to me, laughing.

“We’re selling you like we sell pies now!” she said.

That’s Why They’re Eating at Denny’s

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Last night at Denny’s, a little girl told me (Tony the Balloon Guy)…

“Every time my mom cooks, the stove catches on fire.”

Mom didn’t disagree.

I Got All My Sisters With Me…well, 2 of ‘em!

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

I (Tony the Balloon Guy) and the family saw one of my sisters Friday, and couldn’t believe it had been a year and a half! She only lives 90 minutes away! It was really fun to spend time with her.

Another sister is bringing her daughter up Monday to play with the horsies, and it’s been a while since we saw them, too. (Not the horsies.)

It’s good to be busy, but it’s good to catch up with people, too!

Cows Love Us

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

We (Tony the Balloon Guy & Face Painter Phyllis) entertained at the Grand Re-Opening of Chick-Fil-A in Citrus Park Town Center Mall Friday. School was out, so there were a lot of kids there from noon to 2pm! The Chick-Fil-A people were sweet as could be, and we had a lot of fun.

That’s the second time we worked in that mall in the last few months. It’s a nice one. I remember when it was brand new, and it still LOOKS brand new!

And now the Chick-Fil-A is brand new… again!
